  • Stromboli Volcano (Stromboli Island, Sicily Region) erupted on 3 July at 14.46 UTC, preceded by lava flow at 14:44 UTC. At least two paroxysms explosions were followed by 20 minor explosions.
  • The eruption column is at least 3 km above the summit and moving in a north-eastern direction. After the paroxysmal phase, volcanic activity has decreased. A tsunami of 40 cm was measured in Ginostra following the eruption.
  • As of 4 July, media report that one person died, one has been injured and at least 70 people have been evacuated. A number of fires broke out in several parts of the island due to the fall of magmatic products on the volcano's flanks. 
  • The Municipal Operation Centre of Lipari has been activated and two Italian Canadair were deployed to control the fires.

The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report provides information about global volcanism on a weekly basis. Latest Stromboli report has been published on 03 Jul 2019 09:41.
INGV reported that during 30 June-2 July activity at Stromboli was characterized by ongoing low-to-medium intensity Strombolian explosions and degassing from multiple vents within the crater terrace. A high-energy explosion from vent C in Area C-S (South Central crater area) was recorded at 2303 on 25 June. The event lasted for about 28 seconds, ejected material that fell onto most of the crater terrace and into the Valle della Luna, and widened the vent.
