Italy - Landslide on the island of Ischia (ECHO 27 Nov 2022)

  • During the night of 25 November heavy rains centred over Italy and triggered a mudflow on the island of Ischia.
  • The accessibility to the island, in particular area of Casamicciola, is difficult due to the unfavourable weather condition. Search and rescue activities are ongoing.
  • According to the Italian Civil Protection authorities, one person was confirmed dead, four injured, 11 missing and 167 displaced.
  • At least 15 houses were destroyed, several roads were interrupted by the landslide, and several cars along the roads were carried into the sea.
  • EMSR Copernicus service () has been activated.

Türkiye - Earthquake, update (ECHO 25 Nov 2022)

  • After the 6.1M earthquake - 5.9M as recorded by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) - that occurred on 23 November at 1.08 UTC in Düzce Province (north-western Türkiye), the number of casualties increased.
  • According to the latest report by AFAD, as of 24 November, 93 people have been injured, of which 37 people in Düzce, 26 in Sakarya, 14 in Bolu, ten in Zonguldak, four in Bursa and two in Istanbul. AFAD and Turkish Red Crescent deployed blankets, tents, heaters, and food and non food items for the affected people.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate to lacally heavy rainfall is forecast over north-western Türkiye, including the area affected by the earthquake.

Guatemala - Severe weather (ECHO 25 Nov 2022)

  • Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting most of the country since the beginning of the rainy season (first half of April) causing floods, landslides and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • The National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) and WHO PAHO report, as of 24 November, 67 fatalities (of which 15 in the Alta Verapaz department, the worst affected one), ten people still missing, 41 injured, over 69,500 evacuated people (of which more than 14,000 in a number of shelters) and a total of more than 6.1 million affected people across the country. Around 155,000 people received assistance by CONRED. In addition, CONRED reports over 32,000 damaged houses, 348 damaged schools and 51 destroyed bridges.
  • Over the next 24 hours, drier conditions are expected over the whole country.
