  • Tropical cyclone MANDOUS continued north-west over the south-western Bay of Bengal on 8 December, toward south-eastern India and far off northern Sri Lanka. On 9 December at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located over the sea approximately 200 km south-east of Pondicherry city (Pondicherry Union Territory) and the coastal area of northern Tamil Nadu state, with maximum sustained wind up to 100 km/h.
  • MANDOUS is expected to weaken and to make landfall in the area of Pondicherry city on 9 December very early in the afternoon (UTC), with maximum sustained wind of 80-85 km/h. On the forecast track, it is expected to continue moving inland over northern Tamil Nadu on 10 December, further weakening.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over Pondicherry, central and northern coastal Tamil Nadu, and southern coastal Andhra Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu.
