  • South Kivu province located in the far eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to be affected by floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall, which have resulted in an increased humanitarian impact. 
  • According to media reports, five additional fatalities occurred on 4-5 January in Buvaku city, where several people had to be rescued and at least eight individuals were injured. Several parts of the city were damaged, including some read sections and a number of houses, leaving some residents displaced. 
  • On 9-11 January, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast over southern, central-eastern and eastern DRC, including South Kivu Province. 
Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, November 2022Heavy rain affected parts of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo from around 08 November 2022. On 09 November there were unconfirmed reports of flooding in Butembo in North Kivu Province. On 14 November local media reported heavy rain had caused a wall to collapse in Bukavu, Souh-Kivu Province, killing 3 people. In a separate report, media said 4 people died and several dozen others were injured after heavy rains caused floods and landslides in Bunyakiri in the territory of Kalehe in South Kivu.
