Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines - Tropical Cyclone MAWAR, update (ECHO 28 May 2023)
Pubdate: 5/28/2023 8:47:05 AM
  • Tropical cyclone MAWAR is moving west-northwest in open waters, away from Guam, as a violent typhoon (10-min wind speed close to 210km/h). The cyclone will not likely pose a threat to land areas during the weekend.
  • On Monday 29 May, the cyclone will reach closer to the Luzon strait, north of the Philippines, although the probability of making landfall in the Philippines is currently low.
  • The winds will progressively weaken in the next days although the cyclone could bring important amounts of rainfall to northern Philippines and other neighboring islands when approaching.
  • While winds are not expected to cause major damage, the intense rains could lead to flash flooding and mudslides.
