Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines - Tropical Cyclone MAWAR, update (ECHO 28 May 2023)
Pubdate:
5/28/2023 8:47:05 AM
Tropical cyclone MAWAR is moving west-northwest in open waters, away from Guam, as a violent typhoon (10-min wind speed close to 210km/h). The cyclone will not likely pose a threat to land areas during the weekend.
On Monday 29 May, the cyclone will reach closer to the Luzon strait, north of the Philippines, although the probability of making landfall in the Philippines is currently low.
The winds will progressively weaken in the next days although the cyclone could bring important amounts of rainfall to northern Philippines and other neighboring islands when approaching.
While winds are not expected to cause major damage, the intense rains could lead to flash flooding and mudslides.
